So my therapist and I have come to a fork in the road. I have to give a bit of back info first, to explain why this time it's probably not just a fork, but the end of the road.
Three weeks after I started seeing her, she called me at home to tell me that my insurance provider wasn't paying her for my visits and that I owed her $450 and she wanted my credit card number RIGHT THEN over the phone to settle up. I told her that I would have to contact my insurance carrier (Cigna) first before I gave her any payment info.
Cigna told me that they had not received any claims from her. No claims = no payment. So I called her back and told her the info and she admitted that she may have sent the claims to the wrong address, as she is new to being a provider under Cigna. NOT MY PROBLEM. I gave her the number so that she could rectify her bookkeeping on her own.
That was about 6 weeks ago. I've had several sessions since then. I got a call from her last Tuesday telling me that Cigna wasn't paying her because she has recently moved her office location. She wasn't sure if their policy is to forward payment and she called me to ask me to call Cigna and confirm whether or not they forward provider payment. .....wtf???...... So I figured it would be no problem to call Cigna up again and ask them. But I asked them the wrong question and got a basic answer which I then told to my therapist over the phone. She scolded me for asking the wrong question and then said we'd deal with it the next day, during my scheduled appointment. She also asked me to bring all of the Explanation of Benefits forms I've received so we could go over them.
So in I went, thinking it would be a normal day. As soon as I sat down and she turned on the timer (yes, these sessions are timed) we began discussing my financial obligation to her. She looked over the forms I brought in and it was noted on all but one that they were paid, with checks sent on 4/28. The one that was in dispute was deemed so because there was no date listed on it when a check was sent. So she said,"You are going to pay me $105 for this statement, because you are responsible for it. You cannot withhold payment from me, as I've given you my professional service for that date. And it is over 60 days past due, so I should charge you interest."
?????? WTF And she was dead serious. I paid her with my debit card, raced home, called Cigna, and was told that they sent a check out for that session, but the check wasn't cashed yet.
So now I'm waiting for Wednesday, because Cigna will let me know exactly when EACH AND ANY of the payment checks they sent to her have been cashed. And she will REFUND TO ME ON THAT DAY $105.
Shifty old woman switched it up on me, starting the timer and then spending 25 minutes lecturing me on being responsible with my bills. Then telling me how much in debt she is and how she's struggling and I should understand. Telling me that with the new job I should have some available cash to forward to her. Then asking me,"so how does this make you feel?"
It's time for me to find someone else to help me. Sad thing is, I spilled a lot of hard things to this woman and grew to trust her. She just completely destroyed it.
And I've wasted 11 visits (I have 30 for the year) on her. Pitiful.
